Sir,

In reply to your letter of 10th September last relative to the necessity that exists for Police protection at the Head of the Flinders, I am directed to inform you that the Government have had the matter under Consideration, and under the reporting of the Commissioner of Police are prepared to place in the Estimates of 1871 - a sum of money required for the maintenance of a Detachment of Native ^Mounted Police of sufficient strength to be stationed to some suitable Locality on the Flinders River.
