Colonial Secretary's Office, Brisbane, 6th August, 1861.

61/973.

Sir,

I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to request that you will make arrangements to be in Brisbane by the first Steamer arriving here after the first day of September, that is to say by the next return trip of the Clarence, ----- in order to accompany the Governor on his official tour through the Burnett District, and the Northern Downs. The Government will avail themselves of your presence in [order] to arrange finally with you the details of management of the Native Police Force, and to consider fully the Regulations you have submitted. His Excellency will require the escort of two Native Troopers, but it is presumed you will be able to select these from the division stationed at Sandgate I merely mention this in order that the necessary arrangements may be made. You will yourself probably require two horses, as, after escorting His Excellency to Dalby, it is suggested that you should thence proceed to visit the Maranoa Stations, that have not been inspected for a very long time.

I have &c.

A. W. Manning.

The Acting Commandant,

N. M. Police.
