Colonial Secretary's Office Brisbane. 25th December 1862
No. 62/843
Sir,
I have the honor to acknoweldge the receipt of your letter dated the 26th October last, with the enclosure, upon the subject of the inappropriate nature of the site of the Native Police Camp at Sandgate, and recommending its early change.
The subject having been under consideration by H.E. the Governor and the Executive Council, I am directed to inform you that the Government have decided upon the early abandonment of the Station at Sandgate, and the removal of the Camp to a spot recommended by Lieut. Wheeler, at the junction of the Albert and Logan Rivers. The cost of such removal, however, together with that of the erection of the necessary buildings, is not to exceed Two hundred Pounds.
This decision has been communicated to Lieut. Wheeler, who has been also informed that the Government desire that the work be taken in hand by himself, with a view to economy & despatch by the employment of such of the Troopers as may from time to time be available.
I have, &c (signed) A. W. Manning
