Sir

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 8th ultimo, in reference to the charge against Lieut Harris for shooting a black fellow named "Jemmy" and stating that you have, under the circumstances, suspended him from duty.

In reply I have to convery to you the approval of the Government at the action you have taken, and to request that you will notify to Lieutenant Harris his dismissal from the service.
