Sir

Mr J Hall Scott of Strathbogie (District of Bowen) called upon me this morning and complained that the district in which he resides has been left entirely unprotected owing to the withdrawel [sic] sometime ago of Deputy Inspector Thompson and the native Troopers under him to the Township of Dalrymple on the upper Burdekin where, he informed me, Inspector Marlow was stationed with a number of Troopers. Mr Scott further stated that the country between Bowen and Townsville was rendered unsafe owing to the absence of the Native Police, that some murder has been committed and a large amount of property destroyed.

You had doubtless good reasons for effecting this change, and I shall feel obliged to you if you will give them, as I have promised to communicate with Mr Scott on the subject.

I have &c Arthur Hodgson Col Secretary

The Commissioner of Police Brisbane
