Sir,
The Colonial Secretary having brought under the consideration of the Executive Council the recommendation contained in your letter of the 3rd Instant berating[?] the conduct of Mr Sub Inspector Coward, on leaving his District contrary to instructions, and escorting prisoners from Burketown to Townsville, whereby the Government have sustained considerable loss—I am directed to inform you that His Excellency under the Representation made has been pleased to direct Mr. Cowards removal, and that in the meantime he be called upon to show cause why he should not be dismissed the Service.
His Excellency has accordingly under your recommendation been pleased to promote acting Sub Inspector Isley, and has approved of his being appointed to the charge of the Burke District.
