hour too late) recklessly headed by the noble
Baron de Longüeil who, with the careless gallantry
characteristic of the French noblesse, dashed furiously
through the streets of Kingston & at the Penetentiary
road, regardless alike of the stubborn Ill-never-get:
out-of-the-way attitude invariably assumed
by Cabmen & Draymen on these occasions & the maledictions
wheezed at him by sundry ancient females who were
startled into a momentary possession of the sense of
hearing. However it is supposed that some unusually
terrific old witch must at last have proved too
much for the nerves even of the noble Baron - for
suddently steering to the right - he led us at a frantic pace
into the Waterloo road & so round again to his residence
