My dear Stair
Mrs Stuart of Dalness says she will have my blood if I go in the mountains before the stalking is over – i.e. before the middle of October. Breadalbane is trying to let his forest still & is therefore, not unnaturally, unwilling to give any promise. Strathcona will let us do anything, but then he owns very little good climbing

ground.
There is a certain amount of reason for this conduct. Glencoe is a very narrow forest, & the presence of a human being even on a steep cliff a long way off might play havoc with anything.
What do you say to putting off our climb a little. We might go to Ben Nevis say during the second week of

this month, and then go to the Clachaig after the 15th for a few days. If you see Ian Nelson you might ask him if that would be late enough, as I am all against spoiling sport.
Write & tell me what you think of it. Your Mountaineering Club must be posted in the foibles of deer-stalkers.
Ever yours
J.B.
