Many thanks for your letter. My train leaves London at 10.30 on Friday night & gets to Reston at 7.48 on Saturday morning. ( I assume that Reston is the right station: if it is not, please wire me). So will you inform

every evening this week. It is my pleasure after a dusty day in town to get down to that lovely old house & nice people. On Thursday I am going down to Polesdon to spend a solitary night with Lord Milner. I am greatly looking forward to it. There is a chance of Mr Balfour being there, but I hope not.
I have got into a most

awful tangle with my week-ends, but I am clear for St Abbs for the rest of August. After that I find I have accepted a number of contradictory engagements, & shall have to begin writing embarrassed letters of apology.
Haldane has just sent me in his preface to my law-book. It is kind & eulogistic.
