My dear Mr Murray
I am sort of halfway through my walking tour. It has been extremely fine, especially the upper part of Eskdale and the Hermitage Water. I get letters here and I hear from Fox that he wants you very badly to do a play of Euripides in a Classical series which he is interested in. It may seem strange to you that a man who reviewed your book unkindly should forthwith ask from you a favour. But

the whole blame really recoils on my unhappy head. Fox, of course, is quite unaware that you know who wrote the review. Also he admires your book greatly. So I should be very glad if you would think of his request just as if it had come from some wholly neutral person – as of course would have been the case but for my habit of unwise speech.
I hope you are all well and taking a holiday.
Yours very sincerely
John Buchan
