I have just been rejected at All Souls, when everybody thought I was safe. I hate not to do the things I am expected to do.

I am up all this term reading law. Then in January I go up to a solicitor's office in London as a prelude to the Bar. I shall be there till June: then I suppose I shall have to work for another attempt at a prize fellowship next autumn. After that I shall be in a barrister's chambers.

Have you been doing much literary work? I am very impatient to read your new Greek play.

I hope your wife and the children are well, and that you find Surrey suiting you.
