My dearest old Mother
Anna & I arrived safely on Wednesday night, and yesterday I spent a very busy day. I got my steamer ticket & paid the balance. Then I had my picture packed & sent off to you. Then I looked in at the Spectator " & received £39 from Strachey. Then Anna, Maud & I packed up my

belongings in a kist to go home. My solicitor-man did not turn up at tea but sent a clerk to apologise. Cubby arrived about 6 from Northumberland, and went back by the 11.30 train - very kind of him, surely, to come so far. The dinner was at 7.30, and Cubby, Denman, Amery, Harold Baker, Paul Phipps, Henley & Algy Wyndham turned up. - nearly all coming up from the country. It was a very pleasant affair. Algy

Wyndham is sailing on the 21st as extra - A.DC, and unless I am quartered in Government House, he & I will live together. I am very glad he is going out; it is partly for his health. Harold Baker stayed all night with us & we breakfasted with Denman. Today I have to lunch with Strachey & see a lot of people.
I am sending home by Anna a small gold bracelet for you. If it doesn't fit you, you can get an extra ring put in. I also send

£3 for my father's typewriting. The sight of that honest man on Glasgow platform with small troubled eyes made me very dowie. I am quite well in health now. My bonnie old mother, I hope you are being brave & not moping. Two years will go past before you know. I hope my old grandmother not any worse. My love to all at Glasgow & Broughton. My next letter will come in a fortnight's time
With much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
