Thursday My dear Mother
I arrived here yesterday [crossed out with] in a snow storm, having left London in beautiful summer weather. I travelled by the Midland which is the most comfortable line i[n] the world. Johnnie met me at Dromore with a new horse & for those ten miles I should think we hold the world's record. It was pitch dark as we swung round corners like

a railway train. Johnnie is alone, but Mrs Jameson comes today with a High-Church English cousin who (it being Easter week) wants to go to early service every morning. Johnnie says his R.P soul boils at the thought.
I will be home on Monday at 4 in the afternoon at St Enoch's. I sent off my box yesterday. I have got the key with me, so I will open it
