I am seeing a good deal of the new Town Council, & helping them with their rating system which, thanks to my work in chambers, I know a good deal about. They suggested that I should become their legal advisor at £2000 a year, but of course I declined.

I have been reading a good deal in the evenings lately. I have read again Milner's 'England & Egypt,' and also some of the fragments in the Edinburgh Stevenson. There is one called 'Heathercat', about Traquair & the covenanters, - perfectly wonderful. I have also read a rather good novel 'Stephen Calinari,' by Julian Sturgis, & am going through 'Evan Harrington' again. These, with a lot of Virgil & Burns, make up my reading.

I shall write to Bob Howie today With much love to all. I suppose you will be getting my letter any week now.

Your affectionate brother

John Buchan
