Dear Mr Buchan

I have been reading yr. "Montrose" with real delight (at its spirit & élan) - very slowly & wanting to ask you questions on almost every page. I was brought up at the feet of Mark Napier, in my ten years of The Parliament House 1860-70 - the dear old untrustworthy prejudiced fellow!

I live within a few miles (as you know) of Inverlochy (I hate its modern bastard name of Fort William - as I hate the nomenclature of its bastard brothers, Fort Augustus and Fort George - The "William", the "Augustus", and the "George" are gone (Thank Heaven!) The "Forts" are gone (Thank Heaven still more!) Let

us erase the insolent, out-of-date names! & go back to Inverlochy, for the Inver & the Lochy are still there, as before! (You see how un-prejudiced I am.)
