My dearest wee Mother
I see from the Times today that the poor laddie has not got the history Exhibition at Merton. That is the last chance gone. I am very sorry for the poor chap. Is he in Peebles or Glasgow? for I want to write to him. I think he should go to Oxford in any case, & then perhaps next year he might get an Exhibition. I will be glad to contribute. You might talk it over with Walter & Nan.
This is another fine day. If we only get this

weather at Littlehampton we'll do all right. I took Aunt Margie yesterday to see the Wilson pictures at the Alpine Club. They were very interesting. What a fine artist he was. Susie went to the specialist again yesterday & had her throat steamed. Alice had her breaking-up party at her school, & came home in great spirits.
Will you please send me the Aunts' address, as I must grapple with Xmas presents. I do hope Nan is better & all you are well.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
