My dearest wee Mother
This is a nice day but cold. I send you the lad Robertson's letter which shows you that he has got the job he was looking for; also a letter from Lady Frances Balfour about Robbie's [Robbie Macmillan] preaching. We all went to Dr Grenfell's lecture on Labrador last night, &, like my grandmother, heard many startling things. Your letter about poor John Robb was heartrending. I don't know what is to be

said about the Robbs. It is like something in a French novel. Jenny Berrie [the name of a bedroom at Broughton Green], a minister of the Gospel, being afraid of infection, the cur.!
You will see me on Saturday afternoon, and I hope to find you all well. Susie has got some people coming to luncheon, including Charles Graves, & I have promised to go home to lunch. The children are very well. They have got to the laying of the oak floor now in the front drawing-room.
