76, PORTLAND PLACE, W.1.
June: 26: 18
My dearest wee Mother
Susie was very glad to get Nan's kind letter yesterday. It was a fine day & to day is better. Susie & the children are very well. Willie Guthrie came to see me yesterday. He was going to Scotland last night, & he hopes to put in an hour at Peebles on Saturday & see you. I told him you would like to see him. He is a very nice fellow.
I enclose a letter from [ST: Sir William] Orpen about Alastair's picture. You will see that, as I found, he won't charge a

fee. He is a little jewel of a man.
I have to be examined by a Parliament Committee to day & am amused at the idea. So has Beaverbrook, & he is quite nervous about it.
We shall be sorry to leave this nice place. I wish our flitting was over, for travelling is dooms difficult. What has Nan said to A.P. Watt?
Much love to all
[illegible]
John
