[ST: This refers to a paper called New Days financed by George Drummond when Albert Mansbridge was (I think) editor]

Sunday 28/11/15.

SWAYLANDS HOUSE PENSHURST, KENT.

Dear Buchan,

I am unable to express to you how much I appreciate your kindness & consideration, but believe me I am more than grateful & fully realize it all. As soon as I got outside, I said to Vincent, 'Blast it, I wish he could see his way to come in with me'. Vincent said, Yes it is 1000 pities, he is the man. I said, well anyhow he said you could go & see him for ¼ hour whenever you wanted to etc, & Vincent said "yes, but we might get too much of a good thing, for him". I agreed.

Since then I have been thinking; you would

not call it thinking, as I can only see one thing at a time & that is very blurred, & it seems to me that coming to pick your brains one a week or whenever you would allow us to, is not quite cricket. Could you not possibly see your way to some arrangement with me. Once you got the paper right, it would only mean seeing Vincent for an hour once a week, & until then perhaps an hour twice a week, or perhaps you would come down here for a couple of Sundays (station Tonbridge only 1 hour fr: Ch X [Charing Cross]) & draw up a few rules which you think are necessary.

I believe there are endless possibilities in this paper. Think, if John Bull was

honest, it would have had this Govt. out last Xmas, & I believe that we can get just as big if not a much bigger circulation, in fact all the sound honest people of the Country round us. I feel sure that they are clamouring for something like this. We have got 30,000 regular readers & the paper has never been advertised. For this Xmas number the Trade has ordered 82,000. which ought to put our numbers up to 50,000. & it is then just a matter of getting the paper sound etc. & as soon as we are satisfied, the rest will be a matter of advertising & getting the paper known. So much for the business prospects, about which you know much more than I do.

I have started this paper to try to do a bit of good, to get people back to Christianity, but

one wants to get a circulation first if possible, I think, & then sort of smuggle them thru, by asking questions etc. One wants to start all over again & judge things by whether they are in our humble opinion right or wrong. We have had many letters thanking Ward for saving people fr: Christian Science, Theosophy etc: so we have done some good already. These religions of Anti Christ have never been attacked before or shown up, & many good devout Christians are lured away by them, which is all the Devil wants. He doesn't care what happens as long as we deny God & think we can get on without Him, so I feel also that we have a mission to perform. I only see dimly where you see clearly, but I think I can see great chaos at the end of this war, everybody not knowing where to look or turn, & all seeking an honest man they can trust. The party Politicians

will make a great set out & pretend they are going to do this & that again, & will no doubt for a year or two make some pretence of being honest. I think that there will probably be 5 or 6 different parties, & the one that goes straightest will eventually turn out trumps. Now New Days is first in the field, & if it is properly run, I believe by the next election we could put 20 or 30 candidates up, & we would win over as many more as we went our own line, refusing to be bribed & doing our best for justice & fair play. You would have half labour with you also, &
