there. The 9th Lancers are in a very jolly piece of country. In the green September twilight it looked like a Dutch landscape of Hobbema. They are champing at the bit for a move.
An Indian officer came to dinner & brought a splendid old Pathan ressaldar, an old chap like Moses. Bill Beckwith of the Coldstreams, who was at Oxford with me & was a great friend of Sandy Gillon's, came to dine. It was very pleasant seeing him again, for we have not met for years.
Tomorrow I go to the 3rd Army to see what is going on. So today I will have a quiet time to get on with my book. I'll try to find Bimbo Tennant in the evening. There is no news to send you yet, only love & good wishes. I am writing in arbour covered with vines & one of Fish's cousins has just got into my eye.
