My dearest little one

I do hope you got my wire last night. Peebles P.O. was closed when I arrived & I had to telephone it to Edinburgh & they sounded as if they made a mess of it.

I had a very pleasant journey up - with the little Dalkeith girl - Scotland was looking gorgeous. the Kaiser put to death. It was a most underbred speech. Alastair [JB's brother] remarked "Maclean is the aboriginal tripe-hound". Alastair is in tremendous form, & as brown as an Indian. He had only leave for one night & came in with me this morning! Mother & Nan are very well & greatly looking forward to having the little boys, though they clamour for the Wozer also.

It is brilliant blue weather & I ought to have a fine day on the hills tomorrow. Glenconner implored us to come to Glen any time for as long as we liked if we ever wanted a rest. I had a wire from A.J.B. [A.J. Balfour] last night asking me to lunch on Monday. You will see me back on Monday (D.v.) at 7.30. There were endless enquiries for you last night.

Much love, my little one, to you & the blessings.
