My own little darling,
I have no letter from you yesterday, and I am wondering very much how you are taking the news that I will have to be out here for some time. I do long to know that you are not too devastated. If I knew that I would be more cheerful. My health is enormously better now, practically all right, & I shall be very careful. At my mess they cook me very good plain food.
Yesterday I went down to Hubert Gough's army & saw Neill [ST - Malcolm] who is very cheerful. I came back by Amiens and did some shopping. I am very busy in the mornings & from 7 on in the evenings, but the middle of the days are my own for writing & going round. Francis [ST - Ebury] and the other Byng Boys [ST - Canadian Corps] are in the middle of a pretty big battle. I hope to see him very soon, as soon as his brigade comes

out of the line. The people here are an uncommon nice lot, & [ST - General John] Charteris is a jewel.
You will be getting the little boys home tomorrow. I wish you would send me some of the children's photographs & your own to adorn my little billet. Let me know when you want any more money & I will send you a cheque. You are never out of my thoughts, little one. Tell the Wozer I am going to write her a letter soon, & tell Mr John that Fish & Knacky are busy out here, but hard to see. They are always with the Tanks.
Much love to all
Your [illegible]
John
