The Spectator 1, WELLINGTON STREET, STRAND, LONDON, W.C.

Tuesday February 5th. 1907.

My dear Buchan,

Thank you very much for your kind letter ^which touched me very deeply [3x underlined].^ It is a great delight to me to think that I was able to be of any use to you in a career which I am sure will be prosperous and distinguished. My association with you was always of the pleasantest and I never failed to find it a real intellectual treat to work with you. I am glad to say, however, that you have by no means shut the office door for the last time and I shall want many serious and sober reviews from your pen. Be sure to come and see me as soon as you get back from Scotland.

Yours ever,

J St Loe Strachey

PS I have only heard rumours about Newnes. If I see either Alfred or Spender I will try & find out, but it is I fear too delicate a matter to put to either of them directly. Rely upon it however that if I hear anything & can let you know, I will.
