My dearest old Mother
Your letter to Susie has depressed us greatly. But I simply won't take no for an answer. You & Father must come on Monday week. It is an easy journey, & Father will get a complete rest. He cannot do much

with his eye in any case, and this is a cool darkened house. We would be very kind to him. You must come, Mother dear, or you will disappoint me greatly. I am really rather relieved to hear that Father's eye is only an ulcer. That means what I always said - that it is no question of incipient paralysis, but merely of an unhealthy condition of the blood. He must be very careful about his diet.

I am most awfully sorry for you with all the worry, you poor old body. Tell me about your own health. I don't think you need worry about Father. A sore eye is not a deadly thing, though very uncomfortable.

insist on giving her whatever is needful. If she won't give me an estimate, I must just make one of my own. Perhaps at the end of the month she will know better what she wants.
Now, Mother mine, I insist on you & Father coming here. I will take no denial. It is nonsense to talk about coming for the day. I do hope I shall soon hear better news of Father
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
