My dearest little own one
I have put off writing to you till I saw Mother. I found her sitting in the drawing-room, looking very like herself. She gets up at 11 every day & sits up till after dinner. She is certainly amazingly better, but I will warn

I spent all the morning at the Works, & lunched with the Maitlands. They have got a superb house - one of the finest I have ever seen. They are expecting me the last half of January. Then we all went (along with Johnnie Jameson) to a box to hear Lloyd

George. It was a tremendous meeting. L.G. is not in the least effective offensive, but very weak & silly. He has a small thin voice & no command of language. But I quite see the charm for he has something very earnest & gentle in his manner. His voice gets into a sort of pulpit sing-song. He impresses one

[as] not in the least powerful or able but as sincere & kindly. Johnnie Jameson & I were nearly chucked out for interrupting.
