THE BANK HOUSE, PEEBLES, SCOTLAND.

Jan: 8: 11

My own little darling

I got safely to Edinburgh this morning after a rather disturbed night, as the coach I was in rocked fearsomely. I hope you got my wire all right. I had to telephone it to the General Post Office. I found that George was at Kilmaronaig & his car out of order, but luckily, when I was just thinking of taking a taxi, I found Tommy at

St Leonards, & he sent round his car. All the way to Peebles it was thick mist & rain. I found poor Mother pretty bad. She is desperately weak & the fever is still high. Her mind wanders a good deal, and she cries for grandmother (who died in 1901), and upbraids me for not having told her she was dead. It is a heart-breaking job for everybody. tell Arthur that I can't dine on Tuesday? I will be back that night by 11 o'clock. I hate being away from my darling, but Mother likes me to be here. Will you send one letter to-morrow to Parkside Works, Edinburgh; and if you get this in time would you telephone to the office and ask them to forward to-morrow's letters?

Mother asks a great deal about the Ladykin & longs to have her here. She sends you her warmest love. Salute that gobble-face for me

Much love, my own little one

Your ever devoted

John
