This must be mental telepathy - for these last few days I have been so enjoying reading 'John Burnet of Barns' - I confess ashamedly for the first time - and therefore its author has been much in my mind - and now, here comes your charming thought of me, which pleases and flatters me

much. I noted the title the other day, & meant to send for it, & I know how much I shall like it - for in 'John Burnet' I recognise the kindred Border spirit, with its passionate love of our hills & rivers & all that makes us what we are.
I so fear we shall not be much hereabouts this summer, as we flit from here at

Whitsunday, & Elibank to which we are adding will not be ready till the autumn, but when once we are established there I shall hope to see you and Mrs. Buchan again & have some Tweedside talks. John Burnet has set me reading my Peeblesshire History again.
