My dearest wee mother
Yesterday was a very hot day & my wee delegate was nearly smoored. He is a very nice little man & a great lover of cold baths & I get on with him swimmingly, but the talk between him & Susie is apt to run dry. He fights an uphill battle with his moustache which is always getting into his mouth. Yesterday we had a very full Communion at Pont Street, as most of the delegates came. [ST: Doctor] Wallace Williamson was there & I talked to him afterwards. What a fine chap he is. His great rugged Scotch face is a pleasure to look at. He had been out at West Linton with

the Saundersons where Charlie Murray had his meeting last week.
The children go off to night & we shall arrive at St Abbs on Wednesday evening. Both John & Alice are very well, but Alice looks a little Londony & will be the better for a change. We must try to find lodgings at Peebles for her in August & September when we are up this week. We shall come to Peebles by the 5.30 train on Thursday. I hope we won't put you to any inconvenience. How is Nan's back? Susie has got £54 of stuff for the Peebles Bazaar from the London Bazaar, so that isn't bad.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
