My dearest wee mother
I had hoped for a letter from you to-day, for I am anxious about your health. Will you let me know what train to expect you by on Saturday in order that I may come & meet you. Susie had a bad day yesterday with a sort of chill which made her very sick & gave her a good deal of pain. She is feeling better, however, this morning. I dined with Fred Oliver last night, but came back

immediately after dinner.
It is extremely cold here & feels like snow. I expect you have deep snow in Peeblesshire. I don't seem to have any news to-day. We are sending the servants to the Pantomime one night next week as their Xmas treat. I hope the Mhor is restored to health.
I do hope nothing will prevent you coming on Saturday.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
