My dearest wee Mother
Susie was very glad to get your kind letter yesterday. I hope the servant problem is now settled. Surely Maclean is a foolish fellow to speak like that to Eben! If it is nothing else it is tempting Providence. This is the day of Susie's Bazaar [ST: at Grosvenor House]. Alice has become such a lady she can hardly look out of her eyes. There is a competition for her services, for she was asked to day to present a bouquet to Queen Amelie of Portugal at another Bazaar. I shall probably go to the Bazaar about 5 o'clock. I hope it is a success, & that

we get some good pickings out of it for Peebles.
The conference delegate who is coming to us is the Rev. J. Gordon of Aberdeen. He arrives on Friday. I don't know how Dr Fleming is to get his Communion though on Sunday with all these Conference meetings; Poor Tullibardine has had a bad breakdown - no work for a year. I met an old General Ritchie at dinner last night at Mr Kingsm[?]. Susie dragged me to a party at the Hendersons where Harry Lauder appeared. He was extraordinarily good & he made a dull passable audience do exactly as he told them
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
