My dearest wee Mother
I had a comfortable journey to London yesterday. After we passed Carlisle it was bright sunshine, & London was as mild & bright as June. Susie had just got up, but she is not allowed out of her room. Poor little Alice has a bad cold, & all night she was greatly troubled with earache, & got no sleep. There must have been some gathering, for it burst this morning & she is easier. She was

greatly cheered by a book Nan sent her, & annexed Johnnie's book too. That great man is developing a sentimental kailyard voice, which goes ill with his robust figure. Susie is not allowed to go away for week-ends, so we have had to cancel our engagements for the next two.
I was so glad to see you looking so well, wee body.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
