107, ALBERT PALACE MANSIONS, BATTERSEA PARK, S.W.

Oct. 5. 1913

Dear Sir,

I am venturing to write & tell you how deeply I have appreciated your life of Montrose, though personally I think Colkitto is unreasonably to the fore, & Black Pate & the Graham Lairds, who served their "Loving Chieffe" so gallantly, are somewhat in the shade. If you had played at being them, as I have done, you would no doubt feel differently!

Would you be so good as to tell me how you obtained your reproduction of the Honthorst? It is the most satisfying picture of Montrose I have ever seen - though not very like the original portrait, unfortunately. I do want a large engraving - like yours - if it be obtainable.

Please forgive my troubling you.

Yours faithfully (Miss) Elizabeth Nankivell.

John Buchan Esq.
