My dearest wee Mother
This is another lovely day. Alice is quite well now, but Mr John is heavily colded. However I don't think it is in his chest. I have to go to a dinner tonight to Mott, the missionary. George Brown is up to-day, & we are very busy.
I wrote to John Simon asking whether he was going to speak at Peebles. He replies to-day that it is the first time he ever heard he was speaking at Peebles,

but that if he ever comes he will give me notice. It is a mysterious business, & I expect Haldane's visit is equally in the clouds.
I wonder what has been done about Berry. The 'Scotsman' review of Ardwall was a very nice one. I hope you are keeping well & that Nan's back is not troublesome. Alastair sent Alice an illustrated letter yesterday with which she is perfectly delighted. I was really awfully well done.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
