My dearest wee Mother

This is a very wet day. We had a wire from Drygrange yesterday saying that the fish were running and the river in order, but alas! we can't go. Miller came to dine last night,

and was very like himself. We had Willie Elliot to meet him. Poor Mr John was quite ill yesterday with a temperature of 103. He had a better night, however, & his temp. is down to 100 this morning. A queer sort of feverish cold has

been going through the nursery. George Brown went home last night, but he will be up again next week. We have got over our American manager & are very busy just now.

"Ardwall" seems to be well reviewed. Two election results come out to

day. I hope Reading is safe. Clink [ST: Peebles & Selkirk conservative agent] will now be released for Linlithgow.

I hope you & Nan are well & that Alastair has got over his cold.
