My dearest wee mother
This is a lovely bright day after the rain. A year ago
was the old laddie's funeral [ST: his brother William]. This must have been a bleak week of
memories for you all. I have been spending quiet evenings thinking.
Susie was glad to get Nan's letter this morning. She gets
up today. I am glad to say Mr John is very much better
both in temper & in health. I am managing to switch off
Alice from "The Gold River" to "The Gold of Fairnilee". She is
is a quite imaginative little girl. Soon she will learn to read,
& then I don't know how we are to keep her from books.
