I enclose another "lover-like" letter of Hodder Williams. I have proposed pretty high terms. Shall I write a paragraph for Nan.
It is very hot & close here & I came home dripping last night & had a hot bath & worked till late. There is no news about my offences,

except that I gather the War Cabinet take my side violently. The P.M. is still in France. I like my present work, but there are heaps of other things I could do, though I am not sure but that I am not doing my best duty where I am. I would of course a thousand times rather be with Haig in France.
I may very likely be in Edinburgh on Sunday, but it will only be passing through on my way to the Fleet. It is tantalising to be so near & not to see you.

I fear Lord Grey (Earl Grey, not Edward) is dying. He had my operation, but they found cancer. I am desperately sorry about it, for he is the best of good fellows.
Susie seems very well & the children are very happy haymaking
