8, HEREFORD GARDENS, MARBLE ARCH, LONDON. W. February 8th 1917.
Dear John,
I hear you are Director General of Propaganda and work day and night in the interests of Great and Greater Britain with the assistance of Little Britain; also that Masterman has been interned at your instigation, and that Gilbert Parker has been sent on to Somao [Samoa].
I suppose you wouldn't come and dine tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday?
Is your lady going out just now? If this can't be, I will take my chance of catching you on Saturday afternoon or Sunday.
I have endeavoured to do my bit this weekend for your department, viz:- I am giving lunch to Mr. Grasty of the New York Times to-morrow and am offering similar hospitality to Mr. Sloss of the Chicago Daily News on the day following.
Yours sincrely, F.S. Oliver
John Buchan Esq., 76 Portland Place W.
