My dearest wee Mother

This is a grey day, but quite fine. Milner came to dine last night, & we had a long talk. I have been hunting for quotations for the P.M's Scots speeches. I hope he makes a success of them.

We are living in the back-drawing-room for a week, for the library is being cleaned. The children are very well.

The 'Mesopotamia' report this morning is a corker. I think it very good, but it is pretty severe.

I seem to have no news this morning at all. George Brown is in London & is coming to see me in half an hour.

I have long heavy days just now, & a continuous struggle with small-mindedness & pettiness, but it is a small task compared to

what far better men have at the Front.

I do hope you are a little stronger, wee body.
