I haven't heard from you this morning, but hope to do so by a later post. It was a brilliant day here yesterday & Kent was like a scent bath with hay & flowers. They have nearly got in the hay in the two fields & Johnny & Alice were the busiest little people you can imagine, going round

after the men raking up the hay with their sticks, Johnny took me aside & pointing to the men said in a hot whisper "I know who that person is it is Mr. Owl" It was a very pastoral scene, the rude fore= fathers of the hamlets with their weather beaten straw hats & jolly old faces, the younger men & boys, & the brilliant green of the woods & the blue distance making a back

ground for them, & in contrast to all this peace the ceaseless vibration of the guns, & the noise of the aeroplanes flying along. Johnny when he was finally got home panting said, "I like hard work as long as it is fun"

They are out again the field now helping.
