My dear John,
I have just finished reading "The Path of the King" - and can't refrain from a line of congratulation, which I'm sure you won't think impertinent! It is long since I have enjoyed myself so much over a book. How you manage to get right into so many centuries - and so many countries - beats me. I don't know which episode I like best: "the eyes of youth" is hard to better - but what about "the Regicide"? - a perfect gem. I shall never again boast of my acquaintance with the author of "The

thirty-nine steps".
How delightful it is to be enchanted with a book. I have now turned it over to Evy who looks very happy in her chair over it.

By the by, do you introduce the word "cow-pat" for the first time into literature? or only for the first time as a simile to describe beautiful scenery?
