THE EMPORIA GAZETTE DAILY AND WEEKLY W.A. WHITE, EDITOR AND OWNER W.E. HUGHES, MANAGER EMPORIA, KANSAS

August 5, 1921.

My dear John Buchan:

It was fine of you to write to me as you did about the article, which I wrote the day after my daughter Mary's funeral. I am glad you liked it: Somewhat because Mary was very fond of Mr, Steadfast and "The Green Mantle." They fulfilled her idea of rattling good stories. She was up to Conrad, Arnold Bennett, Shaw and Chesterton, but she took Sherlock Holmes and The Green Mantle to bed with her.

What a lot of water has gone under the bridge since we parted there by the Park in the west end of London, two years ago. I wonder how much has gone into the sea, and how much has gone into thin air.

Give my kindest regards to Mrs. Buchan.

Sincerely yours,

W.A. White
