My dear John - your letter is a great relief to me. I had a nightmare & read that you were seriously ill & couldn't think of letters. Now I can get on with the Naval Chapters, & when I see you I shall have other plans for discussion. I'm trying to lay out a complete campaign for the next 10 years! & that is impossible without your help, so I jump at your suggestion of a visit to Elsfield.

My only definite engagement is that I must unveil a War Memorial

at Clifton on the 26th & attend a Council meeting afterwards. I could either go to Bristol from Oxford for this, or come to you after it by the dining train. Will you ask your wife whether she would kindly decide for me - if she can admit the idea at all.

I send you the Grenvilles - if you can 'laudare aliqua, ferre quaedam' I shall be happy.
