Department of Information.

4th September, 1917.

Professor Gilbert Murray, Board of Education, Whitehall, S. W.

My dear Murray,

I hesitate how to answer your letter of 2nd inst. If you decide to go to America you will be exceedingly valuable for our work, but at the same time I am rather chary of suggesting your leaving England. There is all this big Education Bill business you could must help in, and I think various questions are going to arise in politics in the near future where we shall be exceedingly glad of the assistance of your pen. If I were in your position I think I should decline.

I remember every detail of a delightful visit to Sheringham nearly twenty years ago, when we read aloud "Pendennis" in the evening

With kindest regards.

Yours ever,

John Buchan
