Just a line to catch the post. The W. Cabinet today put me under Carson! I am delighted & had a long talk with him this afternoon. I have now got a chap who will defend me

through thick & thin. I am going to give the W. Cabinet a weekly report.

Medill McCormick is back & very [goggish?] [ST substitutes 'nice']. He told me that 7 people at different places & times had told him that I would be Prime Minister

I told him nothing was further from my thoughts.

My dinner party doesn't promise well. Only Milner, Garvin & Sir W. Robertson have so far accepted.

I long for you on Wednesday, & my thoughts dwell lovingly

on the Cotswolds.
