My dearest wee Mother
It looked yesterday as if the weather were going to improve, as the wind shifted to the north, but this morning it is as wet as ever. [ST: Right Hon.ble] Harold Baker is coming down for the week-end and we are going to motor down together after lunch.

I had a mighty busy day yesterday right on till 8 o'clock & shall have a busy morning. I lunched with the American Ambassador. I have received from the Belgians my star as Officier de la Couronne, a very pretty bauble. I heard from Susie this morning. She & the

children are very well; but it has been a dull week for them with the constant rain. The wind has blown down nearly all our apples & pears & Susie is trying to preserve them in the Canadian way.
I have got a pair of big tortoise-shell specs. I tried them last night in reading & found that they really rested my eyes.

My deputy, Montgomery, goes off for a fortnight's holiday on Monday. When he comes back I may try to get a few days with Susie somewhere. But I am very well & vigorous & don't need any rest.
I do hope you & old Nan are keeping fairly well.
Much love
[illegible]
John
