My dearest wee Mother

This is quite a cold morning. Susie came up yesterday & is going back to Kent this afternoon. The children are very well, and desperately busy gathering fruit. We have laid in the

most colossal stores of bottled fruit & jam for the winter. I hope to be able to get away with Susie next Thursday for a few days to explore the Cotswolds. Carson goes to the Front to-morrow.

We had a very successful lunch for Mr McCormick yesterday. All

the War Cabinet came except the P.M., who has caught a cold in his stomach among his ancestral mountains.

I had a line from Mr Tudhope yesterday, about Jimmy. He wants a job in Munitions.

I am lunching at the Italian Embassy to-day. Russia goes from bad to worse. It is an appalling

piece of bad luck for the Allies.

Will you give the enclosed cheque to Walter for my insurance premiums?

I do hope you are all fairly well. I hope Nan has asked for a revise of her book.
