I was very glad to get your kind letter this morning. I am so sorry you have been worried about us. It has been rather an anxious week, but Susie & the children have been splendid. Now the weather has broken, & there will be no raids

I am very glad Broughton has been so restful to you, & that old Nan has put on a little weight. Orpen, who was to paint Alastair's portrait, is not back from the Front yet. I fear we must wait till he has finished his work there. I have never yet got copies of the new edition of my poems,

I send for Walter a report I made to the War Cabinet on my Department. It may interest him to see what we are doing. It is a secret document, so he must keep it to himself.
