My dearest wee Mother

This is a fine bright morning. I am going to lunch with William Guthrie & am curious to see him again. I had a very busy day yesterday, & had the whole afternoon & evening with Sir Edward

Carson. The Sutherlands [ST: Sir George & Lady] came to dinner & were very nice. I like George enormously. They talked a lot about you all.

We expected to be in Jerusalem last night. Its fall is certain. We will know by the morning whether we have really won a great victory-

push. Anyhow things are looking better in my field, except in Russia, which has gone to blazes for the moment.

I am always wondering how you are, wee body. Has Nan got any reviews of her book yet? We are all very well

Nan's last letter to Susie was very amusing. Mrs Laidlaw's charitable raids must wreck Peebles.
