My dearest wee Mother
I was very glad to get Nan's kind letter this morning. I am so glad she & Walter liked "Mr Standfast". I think it is an honest tale with a good spirit. Tell her J.B. is not nearly as good as O.D. [ST: O. Douglas?], but he chooses easier jobs. I am very glad to hear

Yesterday was full of Raleigh celebrations. I saw Dr Fleming at the Mansion House, where Edmund Gosse made a very bad speech. The dinner in the Middle Temple was very interesting, & I saw a lot of old friends.
Alastair is to be baptized next Wednesday.

Beaverbrook has resigned. I fear he is pretty ill. They won't fill up the post, as it is a War department & we are beginning to wind it up. I am very sorry about the wee man.
I sat in on War Cabinet yesterday & found them all in very good spirits.
Much love
