76, PORTLAND PLACE, W.1.

Feb: 10: 19

My bonny wee Mother

I had hoped to send you a line on Saturday from Edinburgh, but we had to leave so early for our train that I had no time. You were most tremendously kind to me at Peebles, & both Susie & I are very homesick to be back. I only hope you haven't overdone your strength by our visit. So take care of your health, my darling wee body. I am never free from anxiety about you.

I had a busy day on Friday at the works & saw Margaret in the evening. Lord Dundas & the Principal of the University came to dine. We had a fairly comfortable journey on Saturday, & arrived to find all the children except Alastair suffering from bad colds. Alice still coughs, but she is better. Billy had a temp. of 103 & was pretty seedy all day yesterday, but he

is easier to day. Mr John has a slight temperature still, but he is mending. It is icy weather & all the pipes are frozen. London is really a beastly place.

Yesterday, having no servants, we had to pick up our meals outside. We lunched at the Sellars & saw Alice & Rosalind Maitland. We dined with the Glyns & met the Pierpoint Morgans, such nice people. Susie hopes to get some kind of housemaid & parlourmaid to-day. It is not a very comfortable time, but it will pass.

Much love to you all, and very very many thanks for all your wonderful kindness.

John
